What does Bloomsbury have to offer residents?

If you’re thinking about a central location in London, then you can’t go far wrong with Bloomsbury. Known for its various educational settings and colleges nestling in amongst beautiful garden squares, Bloomsbury is an attractive lure for buyers. With gorgeous Georgian facades, a rich history and green open spaces that provide an air of calm in London, Bloomsbury has a lot to draw in potential residents.

 

A centre for culture and education

This area has been a cultural and intellectual hub for many years. It grew in reputation when a group of British intellectuals including Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey known as the Bloomsbury group or set made their homes here. As well as intellectuals, the area is associated with artists, literature and education and is home to the world-famous Bloomsbury publishing house. The British museum which opened in 1759 really forms the centre of its culture but it’s not just that landmark museum that can be found here; visitors can find out all about Charles Dickens as well as the Postal Museum where you can learn all about the history of letters and parcels.

 

Historical architecture

Whilst the area was developed during the 17th century, it was during the 19th century through the Duke of Bedford that Bloomsbury became an affluent Regency area residential location. It’s numerous gardens squares including Russell, Bedford and Bloomsbury Square were developed during this time. Its architecture and heritage are deemed important enough to have it designated a conservation area and there are constraints and limits on new developments aimed at preserving the character of this special area of London. It also boasts numerous churches including Saint Georges Church which is over 300 years old and the early English Neo Gothic church of Christ, literature the King on Gordon Square.

 

Transport and location

Some of the most famous overland and underground stations in London stop in the Bloomsbury area. With underground stations such as Russell Square, Goodge Street and Euston Square, it is incredibly accessible. In terms of overground train, residents and visitors can easily pick up links at Euston and well as King’s Cross which make this area incredibly well-connected and desirable for buyers. With easy access to St Pancras International which has opened up travel to the continent, it is easy to see why people flock to the area. It has so much to offer as an area, you won’t often want to leave but when you do its transport links make Bloomsbury incredibly well connected.

 

Bars and restaurants

It’s not just Bloomsbury’s stylish and elegant facades that draw buyers and tenants to this area, there are a whole range of wonderful restaurants and trendy cocktails bars that herald a Bloomsbury renaissance. For Italian cuisine there’s Ciao Bella or Luce and Limoni for sumptuous food and lively conversation. For steak lovers, there is the Bountiful Cow or if the far east is more your style then Abeno and Namaste Holborn  boast Japanese and Indian cuisines. It also has a wealth of cocktail bars so exclusive they are only known by their location such as 69 Colbourne Row.
